President Reagan on immigration:

“This is one of the most important sources of America's greatness...Anybody from any corner of the world can come to America to live and become an American
We draw our people, our strength, from every country and every corner of the world” pic.twitter.com/wfMCxnS591
Via Simon Schama: "definitely have never posted anything of Reagan but this is moving and true ( or was) and a rebuke of not just Trump's vile demonisation of immigrants as " animals" but any Republican without the backbone to repudiate him with contempt"
Legal immigration, yes. Mass influx of illegal immigration, trafficked and abetted by people making much money off it? No.
And if immigration is so great, so desirable, so necessary to the country, why is legal immigration so freakin hard to do?
I have two colleagues with advanced engineering degrees who respected this country enough to follow its laws and procedures, learn the language, and tried to become permanent residents and then US citizens. One finally gave up on the torturous process and obtained a job in Hong Kong, one she probably regrets after the Chinese took over. The other is still working on it. We joke with him that all he needs to do is go home to Mexico, walk back across the border, and go back to doing whatever he wants to do, like everyone else on that path.
