After the arrest of the disabled woman in Newport for posting stickers saying that "3+ women a week are killed by men" - a message that she was told was offensive - Gwent Police have issued a statement:
Superintendent Vicki Townsend said:
“We’ve received several reports in relation to posters containing offensive material appearing in Newport between October and January.
“Officers on patrol in Newport saw a woman spraying stickers to two lampposts.
“A 53-year-old woman from Newport was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and displaying threatening or abusive writing likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
“She was later released on conditional bail as enquiries continue.
“The woman was arrested at 2.39pm on Sunday 23 January and was released from custody after interview at 3.23am on Monday 24 January.
“While she was in custody, a mobile phone and stickers were seized as part of our enquiries.
“Following arrest, officers attended the women’s address and conducted a search after arrest. Further items, including stickers and posters, were also seized.
A dangerous criminal, clearly.
“We published a post on one of Twitter accounts on Friday 21 January, asking the public to not remove posters, including those containing offensive material, in the city after sharp objects had been found behind them.
“This public safety message was intended to make the public aware of the dangers of potentially removing a poster, after glass and pins had been stuck behind the posters.
“We would reiterate that if anyone finds such a poster that they leave it to the relevant authority to remove it safely rather than risk injury.”
They would seem to be somewhat embarrassed by the outrage since expressed over the whole sordid affair - arresting a disabled woman for putting up posters about violence against women - and are now stressing this "sharp objects" line: that the posters were actually dangerous. Jennifer Swales, the woman arrested, said that the police accused her of putting broken glass under posters, to which she replied 'bullshit'. It does seem on the face of it an absurd accusation. What possible reason could she have for doing such a thing? Do the police have any evidence to back this up?
It's not hard to detect the hand of Stonewall in this. In 2020 it was reported that Gwent Police had spent some £14,000 in the past three years on Stonewall-inspired LGBT activities.
My guess is that Jennifer Swales, a well-known campaigner for women's rights, has been targeted by trans activists with malicious complaints to Gwent Police and, primed with Stonewall nonsense about "woman" being an offensive and transphobic word, plod have taken the bait. I may be wrong, we'll see, but either way I'm sure we'll be hearing more of this, as Swales doesn't sound like the sort of person who's going to let this rest.
Update: see The razor blades libel. We might even have an ID for that trans activist.
"...glass and pins had been stuck behind the posters."
This is of course a fairly well-known "urban myth".
No evidence has ever been produced afaik.
