The best British reggae group was Misty in Roots, but they were very underground, did not get the big label push, apart from Peel

Other reason was - people forget just how big American soul & funk was in both black & white Britain in the 60s & 70s. When they did the repeats of all the 70s Top of the Pops a few years back, every other band was The Stylistics, Chi-Lites, Gladys Knight etc etc.
