Australia has a long and deeply ignoble history of child abuse scandals: the treatment of unaccompanied migrant children from the UK, which continued until the 1970s; the "stolen generation" of aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children; the abuse committed by priests and prelates and concealed by the Roman Catholic church. And now the judicial system, which ought to protect young people, is siding with the perpetrators, or perhaps becoming one itself.
