See, the thing is that even these exposes of brutalism themselves reflect the preoccupations of the metropolitan middle classes who built them in the first place. I can assure you that even the deeply unfashionable and distant outposts of working class small-town Scotland can boast buildings every bit as ugly and dehumanising as these, although seldom finding their way into weekend supplements and glossy books. Why, in Midlothian alone, I recommend a visit to the Brunton Theatre, Mussleburgh, or the Dalkeith Civic Centre, or the Broxburn Town Hall.

Should add, if you want to make s study, take Basil Spence's Edinburgh University Library as your starting point, all three of those mentioned are only a short walk and a bus journey away. You'll probably need to bring your own black & white film with you, though.
