The delusion continued. I remember reading a letter to the editor of some magazine in the US (perhaps The Nation) sometime in the early 1980s by an apparently far-left-wing Jewish writer saying that the USSR was the best friend the Jews ever had. I guess he would have been termed a "useless idiot."

Would it be in bad taste to suggest that part of torture inflicted consisted of being forced to listen to Markish’s 20,000 verse poem in praise of Stalin?
