I think what would happen is a Chinese take-over of North Korea in short order. South Korea may strike back to a attack from the North but this would only bring forward Chinese intervention. As for the United States, alas they will do nothing.

China has already perceived, correctly in my view, that most western nations are now weak and do not have the stomach for confronation, most being obsessed with endless welfare programmes and imagined rights of its increasingly lazy citizens. The only real contest China faces is growth of an alliance of the Asian nations that border it. This will bury past resentments towards Japan in favour of a common threat of the local bully.

A very plausible scenario. And probably 99 percent of all the governments on earth would be more than happy with a Chinese-run DPRK.
