From the Greenway:
Olympic visitors arriving from West Ham Station will pass this way, and have the opportunity to stop and admire the view of the Twelve Trees gasholders, with the towers of Docklands in the distance.
They've just finished painting the Greenway bridge in readiness for the coming festivities. Go down the right side there, by those arches, look back, and see what a fine job they've done:
Sadly the money didn't extend to clearing up the old shopping trolleys and tyres resting in the mud below.
Now if they'd followed my advice and stuck a lock down by Trinity Buoy Wharf where the Lea joins the Thames, instead of up at Three Mills, then all this would be permanently under water instead of tidal. It'd be a delightful spot of rus in urbe, with ducks and swans, a cafe serving cream teas, perhaps some chaps in punts. But they don't listen, do they?
Still, Iain Sinclair will be pleased.
