In the days, long gone, when I used to haunt Brixton market for the latest Jamaican imports - or pre-releases as they were known, though most of them never made it to release in the UK - the name of Yabby You was always a guarantee of quality. Standing in front of a crowded market stall with only a 20-second or so blast of a song to decide, it was never easy to pick the winners, but I don't remember one purchase on his Prophets label that I regretted later. What he had a particular knack for was the killer rhythm - sorry, riddim:
which would become instant classics for DJs like Big Youth to toast over:
And Love Thy Neighbour posted here as a tribute - the lyric indicating Yabby You's Christian beliefs in a Rasta-dominated culture.
