The Kurds may be the exception in terms of the solidity of the political and social structures in their corner of Iraq, but for whatever reason they seem to be at the epicentre of the honour killing business. I don't have figures, but Kurds feature with depressing regularity in these stories.


I apologise for the mistake in the above record, it should read: A"ccording to another source, the Social Training and Development Institute of Women in Hiran told authorities in Suleimaniya city (which is governed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) that the stoning _would_ take place." Sorry, I transcribed the translation directly from a phone conversation and didn't reread it. It has been corrected onsite.


Oh -- Kurdistan is a real name in Kurdistan. Never forget how nationalist Kurds are ;-)
