I had a conversation with a Kurdish gentleman a couple years ago where he described how an Iraqi army officer appeared at his door and told him to vacate immediately or face the consequences. His house and farm were given to a regime supporter and his families became refugees; probably they were lucky not to be shot. But for the lofty Mr. Beaumont all that is a meaningless abstraction. The west's liberal elite becomes more parochial and small-minded by the day.
