Laban Tall

In Tony Parker's book about Grendon Underwood psychiatric prison, The Frying Pan, he asked a Jewish prisoner if he could throw any light on the fact that Jews were under-represented in the prison population.

The prisoner got angry - complete nonsense, he said. When Parker quoted the Home Office figures, he calmed down and, smiling, suggested that the Home Office officials who compiled the reports were probably themselves Jewish.

"Even while he was propunding this, the final clinching argument had already struck him. He ended with a smile 'And look at Israel. I understand that nearly 99% of the prison population is Jewish. Isn't that correct ?'"
