As it happens, Tupelo wasn't affected in the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 - it's 90-odd miles from the river - but it was hit by the dreaded Tupelo Tornado in 1936, which thankfully spared the one-year-old Elvis Presley. Anyway, why spoil a good story?
