Most of Sidney Gamble's photographs were taken in China during the course of four trips, from 1908 to 1932. This photo dates from his second trip, between 1917 and 1919, when he visited Korea.
As other photos demonstrate, much from 100 years ago remains largely unchanged.
Only distantly related, but have you seen some of the pictures from Flowers For Kim Il Jong? This one freaks me out:
