Unusually for me, some jazz...guitarist Sonny Sharrock, with Pharoah Sanders on tenor sax, Elvin Jones on drums, and Charnett Moffett on bass, from the 1991 album Ask the Ages.
Modern jazz guitar somehow rarely has the body to stand up there with the usual sax/trumpet, and ends up compensating with all those annoying fiddly fast runs. Sonny Sharrock's the exception: maybe because he always thought of himself as "a horn player with a really fucked up axe."
He died in 1994, aged only 53.
This one's for Frank.
