I'd originally thought it was earlier - the Forties - but according to this guy it's from a 1957 TV show called "The Sound Of Jazz". Intro by the show's host, John Crosby, and featuring Ben Webster on tenor sax, Roy Eldridge on trumpet.
There's a temptation to dismiss those old big band singers like Rushing here because they made it look so easy and comfortable, without the raw emotion of gospel and soul; but there's a whole artistry in there.
